A group of around 1,000 individuals gathered at a prominent monument in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Sunday, all dressed as the famous Marvel superhero, Spider-Man. The goal of this gathering was to break the Guinness World Records for the largest number of people dressed as Spider-Man at a single public event. The event was organized by Argentine influencer Uki Deane through Instagram, with the intention of surpassing a similar event held in Malaysia in June, where 685 individuals dressed as the superhero.

Deane expressed confidence in achieving the world record title with the turnout in Buenos Aires at the obelisk monument. The crowd was filled with people wearing skin-tight blue costumes and red masks, creating a visually striking scene. Speaking to reporters at the event, Deane stated, “I wanted to summon 700 people and from our counting, we are many more. We have more than 1,000 signatures.”

The 33-year-old influencer added, “It’s crazy what Spider-Man causes, it gives me enormous joy.” At the time of reporting, Guinness World Records had not responded to a request for comment regarding the potential record-breaking feat.

The organizers of the event requested participants to provide signatures and have their photo taken as documentation for submission to the record-keeping group. During the sunny afternoon, the superhero look-alikes, who were dressed as the character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, clapped and sang with enthusiasm. Some participants even combined the Spider-Man costume with the blue-and-white striped Argentine soccer jersey or wore business suits with matching red ties and superhero masks.

A 25-year-old soccer coach named Juan Menchon expressed feeling empowered by wearing the Spider-Man outfit, mentioning that the mask provides him with a sense of freedom to express himself. Others agreed with the transformative power of the costume, with 18-year-old Matias Cones stating, “As Stan Lee says, anyone can put on the mask.”
