Malaysian Nurul Ain Haron, who has returned safely from her charity work in Gaza, describes the dire situation in the conflict area as one of starvation, death, and anarchy. She was visibly shaken and tearful as she recounted her experiences upon her return to Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Upon reuniting with her family at the airport, Nurul Ain’s parents, Haron Hamim and Mastura Yusof, expressed relief to have her home after her traumatic experiences in Gaza. She returned with her Palestinian husband, Mohamed AM Shaat, who also shared her harrowing experiences.
“Even though I received many donations from people, there was no food, no blankets, nothing…,” Nurul Ain said as she broke into tears. The situation in Gaza was desperate, with people fighting over meager resources like bread and money due to the destruction caused by Israeli strikes. The fighting and hopelessness were overwhelming.
Nurul Ain also recounted the devastation she witnessed, particularly after her husband’s relative’s home was destroyed by an Israeli missile strike. The situation was far worse than during Israel’s 2014 intrusion, with scenes of death and despair all around.
Despite the trauma, Nurul Ain praised the government for coordinating her return and pleaded for a ceasefire in Gaza to spare the lives of her husband’s family still living there.
