The Gemas-Johor Baru Electrified Double Track project is currently at 92% completion, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke. Loke stated that there have been some delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic but reassured that the project is back on track and expects it to be fully operational by 2025. He made these remarks during a press conference held in Kluang on September 7.
During the same press conference, Loke witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the construction of the Kluang Heritage Railway Liner Park. The MOU involved the Kluang Municipal Council, Railway Assets Corporation, SIPP-YTL JV, and Think City.
Loke, who serves as both the Transport Minister and DAP secretary-general, emphasized the importance of maintaining a good relationship within the unity government despite differences of opinion. He stated that it is normal to have issues and differences in any political relationship but highlighted the need for a close and positive relationship between the state and Federal governments.
A response came from Umno supreme council member Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, who addressed Loke’s concerns about Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) affecting the Pulai by-election. Nur Jazlan stated that voters had already made their decision prior to Ahmad Zahid Hamidi being granted the DNAA in the Yayasan Akalbudi case.
In relation to this issue, Loke had previously requested the Attorney General to provide an explanation for the granting of a DNAA to Ahmad Zahid at the prosecution’s request.
