German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made a lighthearted comment about eagerly anticipating social media reactions after he was seen wearing an eye patch in an official photograph released on Monday. The eye patch was a result of a jogging accident he had over the weekend. Scholz posted on his X account, formerly known as Twitter, expressing his gratitude for the well wishes and stating that the injury looks worse than it actually is.
The photo also shows visible scratches on the chancellor’s face, and government spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit mentioned during a regular news conference on Monday that Scholz will have to wear the eye patch for the coming days and weeks. Despite the circumstances, Hebestreit assured that Scholz is in good spirits and is expected to participate in a Catholic Church event in Berlin on the same day.
Being an avid jogger, Scholz had to cancel his commitments on Sunday due to the fall while running on Saturday. However, according to Hebestreit, the incident will not affect his schedule for the rest of the week.
