The Home Minister has promised a thorough investigation into claims of criminal elements turning Julau, Sarawak into a “Wild West” town.
Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail was briefed on the matter by Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng.
He shared the information with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and mentioned that the Julau OCPD has issued a statement regarding arrests and ongoing investigations.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the General Operations Force (GOF) Central Brigade Headquarters, IGP Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, and Bukit Aman Logistics Department director Datuk Seri Sahabudin Abd Manan, the Home Minister expressed confidence in the police’s ability to address the situation promptly.
On Thursday, Sng had called on Bukit Aman to restore law and order in Julau and Pakan districts before they turn into “the Wild West”. In a Facebook post, he claimed that local gangsters have been terrorizing the locals with their illegal activities.
According to Sng, the introduction of online gaming has led to the carving up of Sarawak’s cities and towns into districts controlled by gangsters from different groups.
Sng also claimed that during the Chinese New Year celebrations on Sunday (Feb 11), several suspected gangsters intimidated him and his entourage, demanding angpao from him. Sng gave them red packets containing RM5 meant for children, and later they accosted him but he managed to lodge a police report. The men were arrested on Monday (Feb 12).
