    GISB crackdown: Six books related to outlawed Al-Arqam seized in Penang raid

    GEORGE TOWN: Six books believed to be related to the banned Al-Arqam group have been seized during multiple raids here in the state.

    Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid said the Penang Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIPP) confiscated the banned books from four premises.

    “In the latest development raids have been carried out on four premises owned by the Global Ikhwan Sdn Bhd Holdings (GISB) network in Penang.

    “As a result of the raids at four locations on Saturday (Sept 21) JHEAIPP has confiscated six books suspected to be related to Al-Arqam.

    “These books are banned under Section 13(1)(b) of the Syariah Criminal Offences (State of Penang) Enactment 1996,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Sept 21).

    Abdul Hamid said the four premises raided were Rumah Jagaan Harapan Al Mahabbah, Rumah Permata Kasih Taman Seri Mengkuang, Kedai Kek Dan Roti Ikhwan and Ikhwan BP Mart, all located on the mainland.

    “The raids were carried out on Saturday (Sept 21) by JHEAIPP with the police, Social Welfare Department, Seberang Perai City Council and other state agencies.

    “The investigation is still ongoing and the authorities are currently examining the evidence obtained.

    “The state government is committed to ensuring that action is taken based on facts and evidence.

    “We will not make any hasty decisions based on speculation.

    “We urge people not to get involved in disseminating inaccurate or defamatory information that can cause confusion and tension in society,” he said.

    He said the state government will continue to monitor the progress of this investigation and will cooperate with the authorities to ensure that this issue is resolved.
