    GISB probe: five men detained near Malaysia-Thailand border

    KUALA LUMPUR: Five more men have been detained in connection with the ongoing investigation on 20 raided care homes believed to be linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB).

    Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the suspects were detained near the Bukit Kayu Hitam border checkpoint at about 6pm on Wednesday (Sept 18).

    “Those detained were travelling in two motorhomes bearing the GISB logo.

    “They were heading to the Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS complex, towards Thailand,” he said when contacted.

    The suspects, aged 28, 30, 37, 39 and 41, were being investigated under Section 32 (a) of the Child Act 2001, Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Act 1998 and Section 14 Atipsom 2022, the IGP said.

    “They have been brought to the Kubang Pasu district police headquarters for further action.

    “The suspects’ last known addresses were in Selangor, Johor and Perak,” he said.

    On Sept 11, police rescued 402 children, comprising 201 boys and 201 girls, aged between one and 17, from the 20 care homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan in a rescue operation codenamed Op Global.

    There were allegations that the children were abused, exploited and sexually assaulted.

    A total of 171 suspects, aged between 17 and 64, were arrested, including a teacher and dorm caretakers.
