(Reuters) – Thailand’s Denwit Boriboonsub secured his first Asian Tour title and his third victory in as many weeks when he defeated Sweden’s Henrik Stenson by three strokes at the Saudi Open on Sunday.

Boriboonsub had previously won the Aramco Invitational on the Asian Development Tour two weeks ago and followed that up with a win at the Thailand Open last week.

He was tied for the lead at the Riyadh Golf Club after two rounds but was overtaken by his compatriot Phachara Khongwatmai on Saturday.

Despite losing the top spot, Boriboonsub managed to card a seven-under 64 on Sunday, matching the lowest round of the day and finishing at 18-under overall with eight birdies and one bogey.

After sinking a birdie putt on the 18th hole, Boriboonsub celebrated with his caddie before being drenched in water by fellow golfers on the green.

“It is an incredible feeling to win three weeks in a row. It is like magic,” Boriboonsub said.

“I was really confident before coming to this week because I just know my game. I hit my drives good, my irons and putting were also good. So my goal this week was to win. Fortunately, I made it.”

Former British Open champion Stenson finished second at 15-under, followed closely by Australia’s Travis Smyth, who was a stroke further behind.

“I came in with two months off, so it was a good opportunity for me to kind of see where we’re at and what needs to be worked more on when we start preparing for next year in the middle of January,” Stenson said.
