KUALA LUMPUR: Experts have praised the unity government for implementing 19 initiatives to alleviate the financial burdens faced by the people over the past seven months. These initiatives, which focus on education, health, and transport, have been widely seen as a comprehensive effort that targets various groups.
Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid, the chief economist and social finance head of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd, commended the government’s efforts, stating that they would help ease the financial burdens of eligible groups and allow them to allocate their income towards other needs.
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Education Diversity Study Centre senior lecturer Dr Anuar Ahmad also expressed support for the initiatives, but emphasized the need for long-term and structural plans to restore the country’s economy. He suggested allocating more funds for developing highly skilled human resources, reducing youth unemployment, investing in high technology, and establishing additional training and skills institutions.
Furthermore, Associate Prof Dr Ahmed Razman Abdul Latiff from Putra Business School MBA program commended the government for its efforts to assist affected groups during these uncertain economic times, but called for greater focus on medium and long-term initiatives to complement the existing ones. He proposed increasing the minimum and average wages annually, as well as reforming social benefit assistance to ensure that it is specific and appropriate.
In a video posted on his official Facebook page, Communication and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil outlined the government’s initiatives, including the introduction of new assistance plans and increased aid rates. Throughout the 7-month period of the Unity Government’s administration, a total of 19 initiatives have been implemented to lessen the financial burden on the people.
These initiatives include increased aid rates for students, young people, low-income groups, religious teachers, civil servants, government pensioners, and farmers. – Bernama
