The government aims to allocate additional funds for the repair and maintenance of housing for the police force, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar expressed his hopes of securing the additional funding and disclosing it during the presentation of Budget 2024 in October.

“I am aware of the situation and challenges faced by the police regarding their residential quarters and barracks.

“Many of these housing units are in need of repairs and have been neglected for several years.

“Currently, only about 60% of the police and Armed Forces’ quarters and barracks are considered safe for occupation,” he stated during a luncheon with the General Operations Force on Thursday (Aug 24).

In July, Anwar announced an allocation of RM150 million for the police force, intended to refurbish old police quarters and stations, as well as ensure the well-being of police personnel by providing a conducive and comfortable working environment.

Anwar emphasized the importance of offering comfortable housing to the uniformed bodies.

“These individuals risk their lives every day to safeguard the country from harm and danger.

“Therefore, the initial allocation is allocated for basic repair works,” he further commented.

Anwar attributed his confidence in making this funding announcement to the stable economy, which has instilled faith in investors to invest in the country.

“We have Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, agreeing to make substantial investments in Malaysia, including the establishment of a Tesla office in Cyberjaya soon,” he revealed.

“Additionally, Chinese automobile manufacturer Geely is also investing in Tanjung Malim, Perak,” he added.
