PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim commends the government’s resolute efforts in the fight against corruption and misappropriation, citing the decisive actions taken by enforcement agencies such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) during a gathering with staff of the Prime Minister’s Department on Monday (Feb 5).
He referenced the probe into a corruption case involving the procurement and management of the government’s fleet of vehicles worth RM4.5bil and emphasized the need for accountability in such matters.

Anwar expressed his firm stance on the use of Spanco facilities and the need for thorough investigations into the matter, highlighting the detrimental impact on the country and civil servants, which he attributed to the lack of political will and determination to act.
Spanco Sdn Bhd had held the concession for supplying and maintaining government vehicles since 1993, but when the contract ended in 2019, an open tender was launched for the next award.

A consortium formed by Berjaya Group and Naza Sdn Bhd initially obtained the contract through a letter of intent (LOI) in 2019, but the LOI was terminated in 2020 and the tender was ultimately awarded to Spanco, sparking controversy.
In response to the terminated LOI, Berjaya founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan filed a suit against the Finance Ministry and Spanco, alleging that the contract was awarded to Spanco despite a higher price offered.
This legal action prompted the MACC to launch an investigation into the issue. – Bernama
