KUALA LUMPUR: Former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng failed in his bid to dismiss his four corruption charges in the Penang undersea tunnel project.

Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin told Sessions Court judge Azura Alwi that the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) had rejected Lim’s application, which was filed late last month.

“For the court’s information, the defence had sent a representation letter to withdraw the charges against the accused. Today is set for mention.

“I want to inform the court that the AGC reviewed the representation letter, and it was rejected,” he said on Friday July 19).

Azura then set Aug 8 for the trial to resume.

Lim has filed the application based on the contradictions in the testimony of a key witness, Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd (CZCSB) executive director Datuk Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli.

Following the contradictions, the court allowed the defence to conduct an impeachment proceeding against Zarul Ahmad, the 23rd prosecution witness.
