PETALING JAYA: Police have provided updates on the investigation into PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s statement, revealing that they are focusing on sedition and offences under the Communication and Multimedia Act. According to Bukit Aman Crime Investigation Department deputy director (forensic/strategic planning), Deputy Comm Datuk Suresh Kumar G. Suppiah, the investigation is being conducted under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
In a statement released on Sunday (July 9), DCP Suresh Kumar urged the public not to engage in speculation that could disrupt the investigation. He reassured that appropriate action would be taken against anyone who poses a threat to the peace and safety of the country.
The investigation was prompted by reports lodged by Amanah and Selangor PKR Youth at the Dang Wangi police headquarters. These reports were in response to Abdul Hadi’s statement alleging that Perikatan and the Opposition bloc were planning to overthrow Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s government.
ACP Beh Eng Lai, the Sentul district police chief, confirmed that the investigation would be conducted by Bukit Aman’s Classified Crime Investigation Unit.
