The Health Ministry is gearing up for the Northeast monsoon, forming special teams to handle the expected impact when it hits this weekend, said Health Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan in a statement.
Dr Muhammad Radzi stated that the first two teams will be medical teams who will visit and provide treatment at temporary evacuation centres, with another team expected to monitor, prevent and control diseases while carrying out testing operations. Additionally, there will also be a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services team to provide psychosocial treatment and a Rapid Assessment Team and Rapid Response Team to analyze and control diseases during the floods.
The Health Ministry’s main objective is to provide the best service during the monsoon season and prevent waterborne diseases from spreading during the floods, said Dr Muhammad Radzi.
He also mentioned that a series of meetings have been held with all state Health Departments to prepare for the floods and to ensure a coordinated response to the challenges that the monsoon may bring.
