KUALA TERENGGANU: Heavy rain and storms are forecast for Friday (Oct 25) afternoon and early evening in Terengganu due to the significant weather forecast related to Tropical Storm Trami, which is active in the South China Sea.

Terengganu Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director Rosli Zakaria said the storm is expected to move west towards Vietnam, causing increased wind speeds in the region until Oct 28.

He advised residents to remain vigilant as storm lines could lead to heavy rain and strong winds in the near future.

“A significant weather forecast was issued this morning (Friday) regarding Tropical Storm Trami, which is active in the South China Sea.

“Heavy rain and storms are likely in Terengganu, especially in the afternoon and early evening, until the storm subsides.

“It also has the potential to bring continuous rain in Sabah and form storm lines in the northern and eastern coasts of the peninsula during this period,” he said when contacted on Friday.

In related developments, he stated that the Tropical Storm Trami warning is unrelated to the Northeast Monsoon as its period has not yet started in the state.

However, he advised the public not to panic over weather forecasts issued by unofficial sources on social media, as circulated since Thursday (Oct 24) night.

“Most weather forecasts made by parties other than MetMalaysia have been sensationalised and caused panic, potentially disrupting daily activities.

“It’s acceptable to use them as a precautionary measure, but it’s important to refer to MetMalaysia for accurate weather information.

“The public can get the latest accurate weather warnings from the department’s official website for the latest updates,” he added.
