At least 11 people have been killed by heavy rains in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro state over the weekend, the state fire service has reported.
The rains caused flooding in streets, the city’s metro line, and homes, in addition to bringing down trees and causing landslides.
Rio’s Mayor Eduardo Paes has declared a state of emergency, and President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s government has offered federal support.
Firefighters are still searching for one woman who went missing after her car fell into a river.
