Unsolved crimes can be painful for the families and friends of the victims because they offer no satisfactory explanations or resolutions. Here are some of the most heinous cold murder cases in Malaysia:
Audrey Melissa Bathinathan
On May 17, 1999, Audrey Melissa Bathinathan, a 17-year-old student, left for school as usual early in the morning but never made it to her destination. Her body was discovered the following day near a Tenaga Nasional substation, still in her school uniform. An autopsy revealed that she had been raped and strangled to death. Two drug addicts in the area were initially arrested but later released due to insufficient evidence.
May Goh Lee Fang
On February 17, 2005, May Goh Lee Fang, the co-owner of a children’s clothing boutique, was found dead in her store. She had been sexually assaulted and stabbed multiple times. No valuables were stolen except for her phone. A businessman who was initially taken into custody was later released after his alibi cleared him.
Noritta Samsuddin
Marketing executive Noritta Samsuddin was found dead in her condominium on December 5, 2003. Her body was naked with a pillowcase covering her face and her limbs bound. The housemates reported seeing a tall, dark man with a strong body odor leaving the apartment, but he remains unidentified. Post-mortem examination revealed signs of asphyxiation and the presence of DNA samples belonging to Noritta and two male suspects.
Nurin Jazlin Jazimin
Eight-year-old Nurin Jazlin Jazimin disappeared on August 20, 2007, after going to a night market. Despite a nationwide search, her body was found a month later in a sports bag. She had been sexually violated and brutally attacked. CCTV footage captured a man carrying the bag and a woman with three men at the location where the body was discovered, but the culprits remain unidentified.
Almost two decades later, these cases of Audrey Melissa Bathinathan, May Goh Lee Fang, Noritta Samsuddin, and Nurin Jazlin Jazimin remain unsolved, leaving their families without closure and justice.
