PETALING JAYA: Hospital Jempol has successfully performed its first ever cornea tissue donation procedure, announced Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan (pic).
Dr Muhammad Radzi revealed that the corneal recovery procedure took place on July 17, with the late Mathialagan Nadarajan, 61, as the donor.
Despite being in mourning, the donor’s family willingly consented to donating the corneas of the deceased, stated Dr Muhammad Radzi.
Subsequently, the donated corneas were sent to the tissue bank at Hospital Sungai Buloh for a future transplant.
“The Health Ministry extends its condolences and gratitude to the donor’s family for their willingness to allow tissue donation, which gives hope to the recipient,” he expressed.
Based on ministry records, this is the first ever tissue donation procedure conducted at Hospital Jempol, and the fifth for a hospital within the Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Kuala Pilah hospitals cluster since 2008.
The cluster encompasses three hospitals, namely Hospital Jempol, Hospital Tampin, and Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Najihah in Kuala Pilah.
Dr Muhammad Radzi hopes that this significant milestone will inspire more individuals to follow suit and pledge to donate their organs.
