MADRID, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) — The forest fire in Montitxelvo town of eastern Spain’s Valencian Community continues to expand as of Friday, resulting in the evacuation of more than 900 individuals from three nearby municipalities.
According to the President of the Generalitat Valenciana Carlos Mazon Guixot, the out-of-control fire has already burned through approximately 2,000 hectares of forest, as he mentioned at the Advanced Command Post on Friday.
Owing to the winds in the fire-affected area reaching 70 km/h, the departure and operation of water-carrying planes and helicopters have been hindered.
Mazon stated that the cause of the fire remains unknown. Nonetheless, he expressed confidence that the evacuations have been conducted successfully, without any health incidents or other complications. At present, there are no plans for further evacuations, although this may change depending on the fire’s development.
