KUCHING: Hundreds of people began queueing at the Sarawak Stadium here on Monday morning (Aug 12) to collect entry tickets for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) opening ceremony this Saturday (Aug 17).
The Sarawak Implementation Monitoring Unit is distributing 7,500 free tickets for the public today and tomorrow starting at 10am.
Nurul Rasyidah Alwani was one of the early birds who managed to get the tickets.
“I arrived at 6.55am and queued for four hours, but it was worth it,” she said.
An official at the ticket counter said each person was entitled to collect a maximum of four tickets.
“To get the tickets, you need to provide your name, MyKad number and phone number.
“The system will detect whether individuals have already collected the tickets based on the MyKad numbers to prevent duplication,” she said.
She added that those who registered at the counters to collect the tickets could also enter a lucky draw during the opening ceremony.
Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar will grace the opening ceremony at the Sarawak Stadium on Saturday.
Local artists will perform at the ceremony, while 1,800 participants will take part in cultural performances.
Sukma will be held on Aug 17-24 with 488 events in 37 sports taking place at venues in nine divisions across Sarawak.
