According to Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Hungary blocked a European Union agreement for Ukraine to receive 50 billion euros from the EU budget. As a result, EU leaders have postponed the discussion until January.
Rutte mentioned that 26 EU countries were in favor of providing Ukraine with the money from the EU budget until 2027, but Hungary’s opposition prevented the decision from being unanimous.
He also stated that Ukraine is not at risk of running out of money in the near future, providing some breathing room for further discussions.
Rutte expressed confidence that a deal can be reached in late January, and that another summit would be organized to finalize the agreement.
It is expected that the discussions will continue in order to resolve the issue and come to a consensus.
As of now, the agreement for Ukraine to receive financial support from the EU budget remains pending due to Hungary’s objection.
The delay in reaching a deal has led to a postponement of the decision until early next year, with hopes of reaching an agreement during the planned summit.
It is anticipated that the disagreement caused by Hungary’s opposition will be addressed in the upcoming discussions, with the goal of finding a resolution in the near future.
Rutte’s comments indicated the need for further negotiations to resolve the issue and ensure that Ukraine receives the financial support it requires.
