PETALING JAYA: The Kitster, a husky recently abused by a national shuttler, is still available for adoption, according to the Selangor Veterinary Services Department (SVSD).
The announcement was made on the department’s Facebook page late on Wednesday (Oct 2) night, extending the adoption deadline to Oct 8.
The announcement featured a banner with a photograph of the dog and the words “I am Husky” and “I am looking for a new home!”
The husky gained widespread attention on July 1 after a video showing the dog being repeatedly beaten by its owner went viral, sparking public outrage.
Dog lovers and netizens were incensed to see the man continuing to strike the dog on the head even after it seemed to collapse.
Independent dog rescuer Shima Aris removed the dog and took it to a private veterinary clinic for treatment after the owner admitted to beating the animal whenever it was “naughty.”
However, the SVSD intervened to take custody of the dog following investigations into alleged animal abuse based on a report received on July 1.
On Aug 30, the 21-year-old professional shuttler Samuel Lee was fined RM25,000, or six months in jail if defaulted, by the Sessions Court in Kajang.
The husky, named Kitster, has since been placed under the care of the SVSD and is available for adoption by a “keen and qualified adopter.”
Meanwhile, several netizens offered advice to potential adopters.
Russel Jeff hopes that whoever adopts the husky will provide it with kind care as it needs a loving home.
Carol See noted that adopters must have patience with Kitster, as the dog may have trust issues due to past mistreatment.
“Dogs are the most loyal companions; they deserve better. Let’s hope he finds a suitable forever home,” she added.
