PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir, the former twice-prime minister, celebrated his 98th birthday on Monday (July 10) and took the opportunity to express his willingness to address any inquiries posed to him. Despite his age, Dr Mahathir stated that he is always prepared to respond to the media’s questions, even though he may occasionally struggle to recall certain words. Known for his catchphrase “Apa nama?” when he forgets a word during press interviews, he recorded a brief message to express his gratitude to the media group after receiving numerous heartfelt birthday greetings via text throughout the day.
Expressing his appreciation, Dr Mahathir thanked everyone who sent their greetings. Despite his advanced age, he mentioned that he is still capable of articulating his thoughts and ready to be interviewed by the media. While occasional lapses in remembering words may occur, he remains confident in his ability to recall past events and answer all questions accurately. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of maintaining a good relationship with the media, stating that he doesn’t expect everyone to support him but hopes that journalists will report the truth without misinterpreting his words.
Although no longer an elected politician after the last general election, Dr Mahathir, previously the Langkawi MP, continues to make headlines with his political statements. His influence in the political landscape remains significant, making his perspectives highly sought after.
