GOMBAK: In a candid exchange, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has responded to the claims made by Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, offering to show him how to improve Kedah. Muhammad Sanusi had remarked that Selangor’s development was purely due to its proximity to Kuala Lumpur, to which Amirudin retorted that Penang is also located next to Kedah. Speaking to reporters after attending the Madani Afiat program launch, Amirudin emphasized that Malaysia’s national economy greatly benefits from Penang’s growth and investments. He criticized Muhammad Sanusi for not focusing on the issues in Kedah and instead looking at other places. Amirudin assured that he would visit Kedah soon to explain how to emulate Selangor’s success.
Amirudin also addressed the accusation of being rude to his former mentor, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali. He noted that the criticism failed to consider Mohamed Azmin’s initial comments. Amirudin emphasized that respect should be reciprocal and based on mutual appreciation for the past and future. He added that personal attacks and rudeness are often used as alternatives when facts cannot justify one’s position. These remarks were made in response to claims by former Umno member Datuk Zaharin Mohd Yasin, who accused Amirudin of rudeness during a recent Pakatan event.
Regarding the Malay-majority seats in northern Selangor, Amirudin stated that competition is still open to all parties. Traditionally, these seats were won by Barisan before the 2018 general election, but Pakatan has made significant progress in those areas. Recently, Perikatan Nasional has gained some advantage, but Amirudin remains confident in Pakatan’s track record and cooperation with Barisan to secure the seats. He pointed out that Perikatan’s narrow focus on these seats indicates a lack of confidence in taking over Selangor as a whole and suggests a strategy to become a strong opposition force. Amirudin expressed determination to work hard in the lead up to the state polls.
