PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department’s investigation of the detention of a Singaporean woman will determine if the responding personnel had acted according to the department’s standards.

At a press conference today at the department headquarters today (Sept 9), Immigration director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said that he viewed the issue seriously and that investigations were underway.

“The investigation has been initiated to identify what actually happened there,” he said, adding that investigations would need to be fair to both parties.

“We welcome visitors to Malaysia. At the same time, those entering must comply with the rules,” Ruslin said, adding that the investigations will be headed by the deputy director-general.

The woman was said to have acted unruly towards officers during an argument over failed biometric scans while trying to enter Johor from Singapore on Aug 7.
