GEORGE TOWN: Two Immigration Department enforcement officers have been remanded for three days to aid a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) probe concerning allegations linked to the unchecked entry of foreigners at Penang International Airport.

The remand, which runs from Saturday (Oct 19) to Monday, was issued by a magistrate at the Magistrate’s Court here.

The officers, both in their 40s, were detained on Friday (Oct 18) between 12:30 and 1:30 pm after their statements were recorded at the state MACC headquarters.

Their arrest followed the arrest of a Bangladeshi national at a local hotel around 9pm the previous night.

It is believed the officers conspired with the Bangladeshi, who is purported to be an agent, to allow the entry of an Indonesian citizen without the requisite immigration checks.

The duo were brought to the Georgetown Court Complex around 10am, accompanied by MACC officials.
