According to a statement released by India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Saturday, the Indian government is in the process of rescuing its citizens who have been lured into employment in Cambodia and forced to take part in cyber fraud schemes.

The Indian embassy in Cambodia has been working closely with Cambodian authorities to carry out these rescue operations, with approximately 250 Indians already being repatriated, including 75 individuals in the past three months.

There have been reports in Indian news outlets claiming that over 5,000 Indians are currently stuck in Cambodia and being coerced into conducting cyber fraud activities targeting individuals in India.

Jaiswal mentioned that efforts are underway to collaborate with both Cambodian authorities and agencies in India to combat and dismantle the networks responsible for orchestrating these fraudulent schemes.

To prevent more individuals from falling victim to such scams, the Indian government and its embassy in Cambodia have issued several advisories alerting their citizens about the dangers of being exploited in such criminal activities.

As of now, there has been no response from the Cambodian embassy in India regarding these allegations and the ongoing rescue efforts to bring back Indian nationals trapped in these illicit operations.

The situation continues to unfold, with more updates expected as the collaboration between the two countries intensifies to put an end to the exploitation of Indian citizens in foreign territories.

With the joint efforts of the Indian and Cambodian authorities, it is hoped that the perpetrators behind these cyber fraud schemes will be apprehended and brought to justice to prevent further exploitation of vulnerable individuals.
