ALOR SETAR: The opening of a 200mm silicon carbide power semiconductor fabrication facility in Kulim Hi-Tech Park is a huge milestone for Malaysia, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said the new facility at Infineon Technologies will enhance Malaysia’s global profile in attracting world-class investments.
“This is a major selling point for the country,” Anwar said at the opening ceremony here on Thursday (Aug 8).
He described the Infineon plant as a major investment that will establish Malaysia as a leading global semiconductor hub, creating jobs, opportunities, and drawing in suppliers, universities, and top talent.
Anwar noted that the plant would also contribute to Malaysia’s climate goals by boosting electrification and improving the efficiency of applications such as electric vehicles and renewable energy.
“Thus, technology made in Malaysia will become a central part of global decarbonisation efforts in the future,” he said.
Anwar thanked Infineon for their investment in Malaysia, which he said is vital for the country’s economic growth as a manufacturing hub in the region.
Anwar arrived at Infineon Technologies Kulim at about 10.15am, where he was welcomed by Infineon Technologies AG chief executive officer Jochen Hanebeck.
Also present were Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
