Ng Tze Yong, a men’s singles shuttler, was forced to withdraw during the first round of the Malaysian Open against Koki Watanabe from Japan at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Wednesday (Jan 10) due to a back injury.
During the first game, with the score tied at 7-7, Tze Yong injured his back while executing a smash.
Despite initially attempting to continue playing after seeking medical assistance, he ultimately had to concede the match after falling behind at 8-12.
“I felt pain in my back after the smash,” Tze Yong stated, expressing his disappointment. “I tried to continue, but the pain was too severe, and I had no choice but to concede.”
Following Tze Yong’s exit, Malaysia’s representation in the men’s singles category at the Malaysian Open has come to an end.
