PETALING JAYA: As six Peninsula Malaysia states prepare to hold their state assembly elections, many are referring to it as a mini general election for the country. These states include Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor, and Negri Sembilan, with a total of 245 state seats up for grabs. According to the Department of Statistics, these six states have a population of over 15 million, with approximately 10 million eligible voters above the age of 18. In comparison, the last general election held eight months ago saw 15.5 million voters participating in electing Members of Parliament and state assemblymen.
