ANKARA, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) — Türkiye’s tourism sector saw a 7.1-percent increase in international visitors during the first eight months of 2024 compared to the same period last year.
The Culture and Tourism Ministry said Tuesday that 35.8 million foreign tourists arrived in Türkiye between January and August, with Istanbul remaining the top destination, attracting 12.27 million visitors. Antalya, a Mediterranean resort city, followed with 11 million tourists.
In August, the peak of Türkiye’s tourism season, the number of foreign tourists reached 6.82 million, a 2.47-percent increase from the same month in 2023.
Russian citizens led the list of international visitors, with 4.55 million arrivals during the first eight months. Germany and Britain followed with 4.38 million and 3.1 million travelers, respectively.
Türkiye welcomed a total of 49.2 million tourists in 2023, up from 44.5 million in 2022.
