In Lima, Peru, the country’s attorney general announced that an investigation into President Dina Boluarte has been expanded to include a $56,000 Cartier bracelet found in her possession and 1.1 million soles ($298,070.67) in bank deposits of questionable origin.
Boluarte was already under scrutiny for owning expensive Rolex watches. Attorney General Juan Villena revealed to a congressional commission that the investigation was broadened on Monday to also look into around $500,000 worth of jewelry that Boluarte had been seen wearing at public events.
The deposits made into Boluarte’s bank accounts span from 2016 to 2022, before she assumed the presidency. Boluarte claimed that these accounts were joint accounts from her time as president of a regional club, and she denied any involvement in corrupt activities.
