Iran Khodro Industrial Group’s CEO Alimardan Azimi announced on Monday that the company aims to export 20,000 Tara sedans to Russia annually. This statement was made during an interview with Iran’s official news agency IRNA at the MIMS Automobility Moscow 2023 event, which will run until August 24 in Moscow. Azimi expressed confidence in achieving the export target, citing the strong interest shown by Russian consumers in the Tara sedan. He revealed that the company has already delivered 120 Tara sedans to its Russian trade partner.
During the interview, Azimi also mentioned the past export of 11,000 Samand sedans from Iran to Russia. He acknowledged that while the Samand sedan was well received in the Russian market, its export volume was hampered by various challenges, such as the lack of sufficient spare parts and after-sales services.
A total of 32 Iranian companies, including car manufacturers and spare part producers, are participating in the auto trade fair, according to reports from the IRNA. This event provides an opportunity for Iranian companies to showcase their products and expand their market presence.
Last November, Iran signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Russia regarding car exports. The MoU, valued at approximately 300 million U.S. dollars according to the semi-official Fars news agency, further strengthens the trade relationship between the two countries. Iran has also exported cars to other countries, including Venezuela, Iraq, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
