ROME, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) — Italian exports decreased by 6.1 percent in value in June, compared to the same period last year, according to data released on Friday.

Data from ISTAT, Italy’s National Statistics Institute, show that the sector with the most significant year-on-year decline was the motor vehicle sector, which decreased by 21.5 percent.

On a monthly basis, Italian exports in June modestly grew by 0.5 percent over May.

Imports also fell by 9.6 percent compared to June 2023, with incoming flows from non-European Union (EU) countries dropping by 10.1 percent. However, purchases from the United States grew by 1.1 percent, and imports from China increased by 0.8 percent due to higher purchases of chemical goods.

The data also show that Italy’s trade surplus stood at 5.06 billion euros (5.5 billion U.S. dollars) in June this year.
