SUBANG JAYA: “Laluan Tikus” or illegal routes used by drug syndicates are constantly changing, says Bukit Aman.

Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Seri Khaw Kok Chin said police had identified some of these secret routes used by drug syndicates at Malaysia’s borders.

“It is hard to ascertain the exact number as it changes daily,” he told a press conference at district police headquarters here on Tuesday (Oct 29).

“For example, the northern border area is vast and we are working with relevant agencies such as the Customs Department to tighten security.

“We are determined to (cut off) the routes used by syndicates,” he said.

He also explained that Malaysia was commonly used by drug syndicates as a transit point.

“On top of supplying the local market, syndicates also send drugs to third countries using Malaysia as a transit point.

“Drugs such as syabu are worth three to five times more overseas,” he added.
