PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s interest in the men’s singles department has ended with the defeats of Lee Zii Jia and Leong Jun Hao in the Indonesian Open quarter-finals on Friday (June 7).

World No. 7 Zii Jia could not keep up with Thailand’s world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn and fell 16-21, 17-21 at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta.

They last met at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year, where Zii Jia came out tops.

The Thai player will either face Anders Antonsen of Denmark or India’s Lakshya Sen in the semi-finals on Saturday (June 7).

Meanwhile, Jun Hao’s fairytale run came to an end after losing 11-21, 13-21 to China’s Li Shifeng in 43 minutes.

It was Jun Hao’s third defeat to the world No. 4 player.

The 24-year-old Jun Hao did well to beat world No. 3 Jonatan Christie of Indonesia and world No. 11 Chou Tien-chen of Taiwan en route to the quarter-finals.
