PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s interest in the swimming competition came to an end with Tan Rouxin completing her Olympic outing in the women’s 100m breaststroke heats on Sunday.
The 18-year-old Rouxin, the youngest member of the Malaysian contingent in Paris, came out tops in Heat 1 with 1:12.50s.
However, it was not enough to place the Paris Olympic debutant in the top 16 semi-finals. She was ranked 33rd out of 37 participating swimmers in the 100m breaststroke event.
South African Tatjana Smith led the list of 16 qualifiers for the semi-finals with a time of 1:05.00s.
Another Malaysian debutant Khiew Hoe Yean finished 27th in the men’s 400m freestyle heats on Saturday.
