JOHOR BARU: Police have confiscated drugs worth RM2.2mil and arrested a 44-year-old man during a raid on a condominium in Larkin, here.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the raid was conducted between 2pm and 4.30pm on Aug 7 by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID).
“The man was arrested inside a car and inspection of the vehicle revealed powdered juice packaging believed to be drugs.
“Based on the interrogation, we were then led to a double-storey shop lot in Taman Pelangi, where the team found more drugs with similar packaging. All of the drugs are estimated to be worth more than RM2.2mil,” he said.
He said this during a press conference at the Johor Baru South police headquarters, here, on Wednesday (Aug 14).
The confiscated drugs are 12.6kg (299 packets) of ecstacy worth RM2.1mil, 123g of ketamin worth RM24,600, 1,541 ecstacy pills weighing 621.8g worth RM77,050, and 13 Erimin-5 pills weighing 3.9g worth RM240.
ACP Raub added that the background check revealed that the suspect has no priors and also tested negative for drugs.
“His modus operandi is to sell these drugs to customers via phone calls around Johor Baru.
“The shoplot is used as a store and place to pack the drugs, and the suspect has been active since June this year,” he said, adding that the police are currently tracking another member of the suspect who is still at large.
He also shared that the confiscated drugs can be consumed by 44,180 addicts.
The police have also confiscated two blenders, two golden cards, jewellery, and cash worth RM700; all items confiscated are worth RM22,581.
“The suspect has been previously remanded for seven days from Aug 7 until Aug 14 and is now extended for another seven days to help with the investigation,” he said, adding that the police have also confiscated the suspect’s car.
Meanwhile, ACP Raub added that the Johor Baru South has arrested 2,997 individuals for various drug offences from January until Aug 12 this year.
“We have also confiscated 137.4 kg of drugs worth RM571mil and seized syndicate items worth RM6.5mil in the same period.
