JOHOR BARU: The construction of the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link is 41% complete and is expected to be operational by the end of 2026.
Johor works, transportation and infrastructure committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said the project consists of three main components and is progressing well.
“The depot, station, and marine viaduct are the main components showing good progress and are on schedule,” he told reporters during a traffic surveillance at Jalan Stulang Darat.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat and RTS Link project director Zulkifli Mohamed were also present.
Mohamad Fazli made these comments in response to Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi’s visit to the project site on Saturday (July 15).
In addition, he stated that the state government will conduct a traffic impact assessment (TIA) to find a temporary solution for the congestion caused by the RTS project in the surrounding areas.
The RTS Link is a 4km light rail transit shuttle service between Bukit Chagar Station in Johor Baru and Woodlands North Station in Singapore.
The trains will be able to transport 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
Passengers will enjoy a quick and seamless travel experience, with the journey taking only five minutes between the two stations.
The Woodlands North and Bukit Chagar stations will house full Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) facilities for Singapore and Malaysia, respectively.
