In response to a sinkhole that appeared on Monday (Jan 1) at KM73.850 of Jalan Kampung Sungai Sam-Jeli (FT 066) near Kampung Kubur Datu in Jeli, the Kelantan Public Works Department (JKR) will be constructing a Bailey bridge at the location. The decision was made after an inspection of the site on Tuesday (Jan 2) morning by Kelantan JKR director Mohd Suhaili Ismail.

Mohd Suhaili Ismail stated, “A decision has been made, Kelantan JKR will coordinate the installation of a Bailey bridge at the location. Works on sending the bridge components from Machang JKR will be carried out tomorrow while the installation of the bridge will start on Friday (Jan 5).” The construction of the bridge is expected to be completed by Wednesday (Jan 10).

He also mentioned that thirty JKR personnel from Kelantan, Pahang and Perak who have the expertise in installing Bailey bridge will be involved in the construction process. The bridge is designed to be a one-lane route for usage by light vehicles only.

After the appearance of a sinkhole measuring 15m by 8m on Monday, Bernama reported that the road was closed to all traffic. As a result, Kelantan JKR advised motorists to use the alternative route via Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai-Kota Bharu (FT008).
