ISKANDAR PUTERI: Two teenagers were arrested by the police for taking part in illegal racing and motor stunts along the Ismail Sultan Highway and Link Kedua, here.
Iskandar Puteri deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Azlan Abdul Kadir said the police also issued 314 summonses for various traffic offences during the two-day operation under “Ops Samseng”.
“The operation was conducted on Aug 17 and 18 to eradicate illegal racing activities in the area.
“During the operation, we arrested two teenagers aged 14 and 17 years old for performing wheelies, which pose a safety risk to other road users and themselves,” he said in a statement here on Tuesday (Aug 20).
The arrests were made under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving, he said.
Supt Mohd Azlan added that a total of 126 vehicles and 36 individuals were also inspected during the operation.
“The 314 summonses were issued for offences such as illegal modifications, fancy number plates, driving without a licence and insurance, and driving without a side mirror.
“We also confiscated 97 motorcycles under Section 67 of the Road Transport Act of 1987,” he added.
Supt Mohd Azlan added that parents are urged to pay close attention to their children’s whereabouts to prevent them from being involved in criminal activities.
