The Johor Immigration Department has announced the detention of 62 illegal immigrants during a recent operation at Senai, Johor Baru. State director Baharuddin Tahir stated that around 80 personnel from the department enforcement unit and Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) were involved in the operation, which took place between 3.10pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday (Feb 21).
According to Baharuddin, the operation was initiated based on public information regarding the presence of illegal immigrants in the area. A total of 197 foreigners were inspected, resulting in the arrest of 62 illegal immigrants, including nine women, of various nationalities aged between 21 and 49 years.
The department conducted a raid at a cornice manufacturing factory, leading to the arrest of seven Indonesians (including two women) and four Bangladeshis. In addition, 16 other premises at Taman Desa Idaman were inspected. This resulted in the arrests of 32 Bangladeshis, 10 Indonesians, seven Myanmarese, one Indian national, and one Nepalese.
According to Baharuddin, all of the detained individuals have been found to have committed various immigration offences, and have been brought to Setia Tropika Immigration depot to assist with investigations.
He also emphasized that the department will continue to carry out more operations against illegal immigrants, their employers, as well as premises owners.
