JOHOR BARU: Johor MIC is preparing 100 vehicles to transport elderly individuals to the polling centers on September 9 for the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections, according to MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan. He stated that this decision was made based on a post-mortem report from the previous six state elections, where this service was not provided: “We have learned from our past mistakes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan, where we did not offer transportation services for the elderly. Had we done so, I believe we could have won in areas such as Ijok and Bukit Melawati, which have a significant elderly population. Therefore, for these by-elections, I have requested the Johor MIC and Pulai MIC to provide 100 vehicles, complete with wheelchairs, to transport those in need to and from the polling centers.”
Saravanan made these remarks after visiting the Indian Heritage Centre at the Arulmigu Rajamariamman temple on Thursday, September 7. When asked about the Indian community’s support for the Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional candidates, he stated that the response has been positive: “This is based on the ceramah we have organized during the campaign period. However, I cannot deny that there have been challenges, but the majority have welcomed the unity candidate.”
In addition, Saravanan commented on the visit, stating that every temple should follow the example set by the Arulmigu Rajamariamman temple: “We don’t want people to only come to the temple for religious purposes, but also to learn about the culture and heritage of the Indian community.”
