KOTA TINGGI: In a bid to attract more tourists, Johor plans to capitalize on sports tourism by hosting various international sports events next year, including cycling. State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives, and Human Resources Committee Chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah revealed that this initiative involves cooperation with the Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor (KPRJ).
The state is set to kickstart this campaign with the Tour de Johor and the Johor Bike Festival, hoping to appeal to local and international visitors alike.
Mohd Hairi articulated, “To achieve this, we have presented proposals to Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, and we are open to collaboration with sports organizers, especially those hosting international events, to ensure the success of our sports tourism endeavors.”
Moreover, the state government aims to maximize the economic benefits for the local communities associated with these sporting events. These statements were made during the L’Etape Johor 2023 by Tour de France event, where Mohd Hairi conversed with reporters.
Joining Mohd Hairi at the event were K Raven Kumar, Chairman of the State Tourism, Environment, Heritage, and Culture Committee, and Riduwan Matni, Chief Executive Officer of Muse Group Asia, the organizer of L’Etape Johor 2023.
Speaking on the subject of L’Etape Johor 2023, Mohd Hairi expressed intentions to establish it as an annual event, symbolizing the essence of sports tourism in Johor. He stated, “We will collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and continue our partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to promote sports tourism in Johor.”
In a related development, Johor youth advisor, Khairy Jamaluddin, pledged his commitment to the success of sports tourism in the state by actively engaging the youth.
He expressed hope that the L’Etape Johor 2023 event would run smoothly and become a highly anticipated annual occurrence. – Bernama
