Amman, March 28 (Xinhua) — The General Manager of Jordan’s National Electricity Power Company announced on Thursday that an electricity grid interconnection between Jordan and Iraq is scheduled to begin operating on March 30.
The interconnection will connect the Al-Risha electrical station in eastern Jordan, near the Iraqi border, to the Al-Rutba station in western Iraq, operating at a voltage of 132 kilovolts. The main goal of this interconnection is to provide electricity from Jordan to the Al-Rutba area, located near the border with Jordan. These details were shared by Amjad Al-Rawashdeh, as reported by the state-run Petra news agency.
The Iraq Ministry of Electricity recently confirmed the successful completion of the Jordanian-Iraqi power transmission line, with its launch date set for March 30.
Earlier in February, Iraq and Jordan signed an agreement where Jordan agreed to supply the Iraqi side with 40 megawatts of electric power in the initial phase. This agreement is part of a larger Arab plan that aims to eventually establish a joint Arab energy market.
