In the All-England tournament, men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia showcased his skills once again by advancing to the quarter-finals. He faced off against Singapore’s 2021 world champion Loh Kean Yew in the second round at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham on Thursday (March 14). Zii Jia emerged victorious with a dominant performance, defeating his opponent 21-15, 21-12 in just 33 minutes.
The world No.10 demonstrated control throughout the match, securing his win from start to finish. His impressive display has earned him a spot in the next round where he will face either Denmark’s world No. 3 Anders Antonsen or India’s 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Lakshya Sen for a chance to progress to the semi-finals.
Unfortunately, the mixed doubles pairs Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing did not fare as well in their second round matches. Tang Jie and Ee Wei fought hard but ultimately lost 21-17, 19-21, 16-21 to the Dutch duo Robin Tabeling-Selena Piek. Similarly, Kian Meng and Pei Jing were defeated 17-21, 11-21 by Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet.
