Passengers on an express bus headed to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) were delayed for an hour when the driver was found to be driving without a license at the Kemuning Toll Plaza in Shah Alam on Friday night, according to the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
During Ops Tahun Baru Cina 2024, the 33-year-old driver, who was carrying 11 local tourists from Bandar Puteri, Klang to KLIA, was detained by JPJ.
The driver claimed that his brother’s bus company was short of drivers, leading him to take the wheel illegally.
JPJ senior enforcement director Datuk Lokman Jamaan stated that the driver was issued a compound for driving without a license, while the passengers were able to continue their journey after a replacement driver arrived.
Lokman emphasized the increased risk of driving without a license, especially when carrying tourists, as there would be no insurance claim in the event of an accident. He mentioned that 60 vehicles had been seized for carrying goods above the permitted weight, and that the second phase of identifying such vehicles would begin after the Chinese New Year festive season.
Ops Tahun Baru Cina 2024 has led to 57,110 notices being issued for various offences after inspecting 243,257 vehicles across the country, Lokman added. He also urged the public to report any road safety concerns through the MyJPJ e-aduan@jpj application, by emailing [email protected], or by submitting a detailed report to JPJ. – Bernama
