KEPALA BATAS: Take a look at my track record and don’t just judge me by my looks, says Perikatan Nasional’s Bertam candidate Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq (pic) over a viral video.

Khaliq Mehtab, who is Penang Perikatan election director, said he was shocked that his video during the nomination at Dewan Millenium nomination centre had gone viral.

“To be honest I am shocked. I have been focused on serving the people here since 2018 and remain committed to serve the community,” he said when contacted Tuesday (Aug 1).

The video, which was posted on Twitter, shows Khaliq on nomination day the post had garnered more than 500,000 views and more than 400 retweets.

Twitter user _TheJebs said that “It’s giving Bailamos”, in reference to Spanish Bailamos singer Enrique Iqlesias.

Another twitter user, Ainanino, replied “ni bukan YB, ni YBae” (This is not YB, this is YBae).

Another user asked, “Do we have his picture when he was young?.”

To which _theJebs responded: “I don’t care about his past, I want to see the future.”

Khaliq Mehtab will be in a straight fight against Barisan Nasional heavyweight Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican for the Bertam state seat.

In the 14th General Election, Khaliq Mehtab, who contested on a Pakatan Harapan ticket, won the seat with a majority of 219 votes after garnering 6,485 votes, defeating Shariful Azhar Othman of BN, who obtained 6,268 votes and Mokhtar Ramli from PAS, who received 2,986 votes.

However, on Feb 24, 2020, Khaliq Mehtab withdrew his support for the Pakatan state government in favour of Bersatu, under Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership, who is also Perikatan chairman.

Perikatan Nasional’s Bertam candidate Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq has urged voters to look beyond his appearance and consider his track record. The candidate, who is also Penang Perikatan election director, expressed surprise at a viral video of himself at the nomination center in Dewan Millenium. Khaliq Mehtab has been actively serving the community since 2018 and remains committed to his work. The video, which was shared on Twitter, has gained more than 500,000 views and over 400 retweets. Users on Twitter commented on the video, with one comparing him to Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias and another praising him as “YBae” instead of “YB.” While someone inquired about his past picture, another user emphasized the importance of focusing on the future. In the upcoming election, Khaliq Mehtab will face Barisan Nasional heavyweight Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican for the Bertam state seat.

During the 14th General Election, Khaliq Mehtab contested on a Pakatan Harapan ticket and won the seat with a majority of 219 votes, receiving 6,485 votes. He defeated Shariful Azhar Othman from BN, who obtained 6,268 votes, and Mokhtar Ramli from PAS, who received 2,986 votes. However, on February 24, 2020, Khaliq Mehtab withdrew his support for the Pakatan state government and shifted his allegiance to Bersatu, led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also the chairman of Perikatan.

Bertam constituency voters are encouraged to consider Khaliq Mehtab’s experience and dedication to serving the community when making their decision in the election. The candidate’s commitment to his role as Penang Perikatan election director reflects his determination to bring positive change and progress to the area. Despite the viral video attracting attention, Khaliq Mehtab remains focused on his goal of serving the people and delivering on his promises.
