PETALING JAYA: Two individuals have been apprehended for purportedly stealing two kittens from a cat breeder in Bandar Utama.

Petaling Jaya Deputy OCPD Supt M. Hussin Sollehuddin stated that the 26-year-old victim lodged a police report on Sunday (Feb 18).

“An investigation led to the detention of both a 27-year-old and a 29-year-old.

“We also confiscated various items including a cellphone, two kittens – a British Short Hair and a Munchkin – , two cat carriers and a car,” he said in a statement on Friday (Feb 23).

The motivation behind the theft was dissatisfaction over the sales of cats, he mentioned.

“Both suspects have prior criminal records.

“They were detained until Friday,” he added.

The case is classified under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.

“We have completed the investigation and forwarded the papers to the Deputy Public Prosecutor on Tuesday (Feb 20).

“Both men have since been charged at Petaling Jaya courts on Wednesday (Feb 21) under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code,” he said.

He also urged those with information on any criminal activities to contact the PJ police at 03-79662222 or any nearest police station.

It was reported that a cat breeder was robbed at knife-point of cash and two cats worth nearly RM10,000.

Describing the incident, the victim, Ryan Cheah, 26, said he initially met a potential customer on the first day of Chinese New Year.

“The individual came to my house and bought a cat on that day.

“A few days later the person contacted me again and expressed interest in purchasing two more cats and wanted to meet me at a parking lot of a shopping mall on Feb 18,” he stated when contacted on Thursday.

He said he felt something was wrong and decided to meet the buyer at a nearby bus stop instead.

“I went there with my girlfriend at around 7.30pm and we noticed that the buyer’s car was damaged like it had just been in an accident.

“I went to speak to the buyer and entered his car and that was when he pulled out a knife and demanded that I transfer all my money to him,” he said, adding that the man also instructed his friend who was also at the scene to take the cats from my girlfriend.

He stated his girlfriend did not suspect anything was wrong as she could not see what was going on in the other vehicle.

“Once the other man took the cats, I saw an opportunity to escape and unlocked the car door and tried to get out.

“It was then that the man brandished a machete and tried to slash me,” he said, adding that he sustained multiple wounds to his hands and legs in the incident.

He said the suspects managed to flee the scene with the two cats worth nearly RM10,000.
