LONDON (Reuters) – Britain’s King Charles expressed his gratitude on Saturday for the support and well-wishes he has received following his cancer diagnosis. This is his first public comment since Buckingham Palace announced he would be postponing some engagements to undergo treatment.
In a statement, Charles said, “I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days.”
Last Monday, the palace revealed that Charles, 75, has been diagnosed with a form of cancer, less than 18 months into his reign.
Charles also added, “As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.”
The king expressed that it was encouraging to hear how his diagnosis had helped to bring attention to the organisations that provide support to cancer patients in Britain and around the world.
News of Charles’ diagnosis came after he spent three nights in the hospital last month, undergoing a corrective procedure for a benign enlarged prostate.
